We aren't looking for D. He has no idea what he's talking about. We are in the goalie and winger market or #1 C if it's somewhere to be found (doubt it is). |

We aren't giving away Johnny but I'm interested to see what the sane commenters will suggest. |

The Flames got D back in the Hamilton trade. The reason they might need D is 2 of their D are becoming UFA. |

Id like to see the penalty for a failed challenge to be at the refs discretion. If its a reasonable challenge, no penalty should be assessed but if the refs looking at the replay and sees that that theres nothing remotely close to Challengable offense a penalty will be assessed.
An example would be the goal in Game 5 between PHI\NYI. The first goal Barzal was in the crease. PHI challenge and the goal stood. To me thats a situation where there is definitely a reasonable accusation and no penalty should be assessed. |

Seems like the perfect storm on Guadreau but this is OLD NEWS.
I would think the Flames will want a BIG piece plus either #7 or #8 from NJ or Buff. |

But if you don't know who Andersson, Kylington, and Valimaki are...then it appears the Flames just have Gio and Hanafin, with a bunch of other guys going UFA.
As you said, the biggest priority is a goalie, and more help upfront. In doing so, they probably need to shake up their core. Alternatively, they blow it up and stockpile picks and prospects. So Gaudreau, Gio, Monahan all get shopped. |

Each team gets one free challenge per game. No consequences of being wrong. In the playoffs, you get a new one in OT. Problem solved. Ek's idea of having the NHL review every 3rd period and OT would be ridiculous. You would have all kinds of goals being overturned because of some debatable offside that happened 15 seconds earlier. So basically every single event in the 3rd period would automatically be reviewed in freeze frame. Exact opposite of what fans want. |

The Flames are definitely looking for defencemen. Depending on who they can resign, it could be their biggest need. Andersson looks great, Gio is looking old, Hanifin has been a major disappointment but is still an NHL quality defenceman. After that, it's nothing but question marks. Kylington is a 7th defenceman and who knows what Valimaki even is at this point.

Makes a lot of sense. I'd like to see that if you win your free challenge you still have it. You only spend it when you are wrong and then the next challenge can be penalized.
I also think the Toronto war room could do a better job overlooking these concerns. |

While it may be a need, it's not something you address with your top trade-able asset. Top 6 RW, #2C are up there at the top. A more dependable goalie is as well. If Gaudreau gets you a top 2 D, then it also has to include at least a top 6 prospect. If it's Philly, give me Konecny and Mysers. After all, they know he will re-sign there. From NJ, I would want Hughes at a minimum. |

That's why Gaudreau isn't getting traded this year.
The fact that TSN didn't even bother putting him on their trade board says a lot. |

So you watched the playoffs only. Good to know.
Hanifin is exactly as billed for anyone who paid attention beyond his draft postion. Solid #3,4. - IggyOnly
Gio-Andersson
Hanafin-XX
Valimaki-Kylington
That's probably what things will look like, again, unless the Flames really decide to blow it up. There are plenty of options to fill in that spot. You don't use Gaudreau to do it. |

Valimaki is going to be a Star. Period.
That’s why every trade Tre has tried to make in the last year fell through, because every team wants Vali.
Andersson, Valimaki Gio, Hanifin ( who is still just a kid FYI ) are a pretty solid top 4 let alone if Brodie resigns. |
